The Student Competency Competition, often known as LKS is a prestigious competition event among vocational high schools that aims to screen high quality talent from vocational students according to their field of expertise. In 2019, the implementation of the National Level SMK LKS had entered its XXVII implementation. The XXVII National Level Vocational LKS in 2019 with the theme "Competence for Industry 4.0" was held from 7 July 2019 to 13 July 2019 in Yogyakarta City, Yogyakarta Special Region Province. Competing in 32 areas of expertise competence, which was participated by 759 best SMK students from 34 provinces throughout Indonesia, made this SMK LKS lively and more competitive than the previous year. The implementation of the SMK LKS is accompanied by holding national and international workshops, exhibitions of innovative products for SMK students from 34 provinces, school literacy, talk shows, WSC skill shows, student certification, and job matching.

Department of Mechanical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University took an active role in the success of the 2019 SMK LKS implementation by sending selected lecturers to become judges in various fields of competition such as (1) Febrianto Amri Ristadi, M.Eng as Judges for Competition Prototype Modeling, (2) Arif Marwanto, M.Pd., became the Judge for the Welding Competition, and (3) Yatin Ngadiyono, M.Pd., became the Judge for the Mechanical Engineering CAD Competition.
