ONLINE LEARNING STRATEGIES IN THE PANDEMIC

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all fields, one of which is education. Currently, the learning process is carried out using a distance learning system or online. Therefore, the Mechanical Student Association of the Faculty of Engineering UNY on Saturday (26/09/2020) held a Public Lecture on "Online Learning Strategies, During a Pandemic," which was held via zoom.

The online learning system (on the network) is learning without face-to-face directly between lecturers and students but is carried out online using the internet network.

In practice, online learning has many limitations and obstacles encountered. These obstacles can be seen from various aspects, such as the uneven distribution of the internet network and inadequate technological facilities.

"There are various obstacles or limitations; namely lectures are still online, theory and practice are not as ideal as face-to-face but still facilitate so that the lecture runs well," said Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono, Ph.D., as the dean of FT UNY.

In his remarks, Ahmad Amanullah Rabbani, as the Head of HIMA Machines, conveyed his hopes to the participants of the general lecture.

"This public lecture is expected to be able to organize effective and efficient learning strategies during a pandemic," said Ahmad.

Dr. Apri Nuryanto, S.Pd., S.T., M.T. (Head of the Department of JPTM FT UNY) had the opportunity to fill a public lecture. The material explains the implementation of the 4.0 era online learning model, namely literacy, innovation, and disruption. In his material, Apri also explained the top 10 skills that are important in the workforce.

In addition, Febrianto Amri Ristadi, S.T., M.Eng.Sc. (JPTM FT UNY Lecturer), also had the opportunity to fill a public lecture to bring some material. One of them is about appropriate learning strategies.

In his presentation of the material, Febrianto explained four learning strategies: visual learners, auditory learners, kinesthetic learners, and read/write learners.

According to Febrianto, students are expected not to stick to one strategy but can also use other strategies to be accommodated and not be left behind in their studies. This is also conveyed in his material about blended learning so that all learning styles are accommodated.
